The Motion Picture is considered one of the most iconic musical performances in modern history. In front of an audience of 5000 fans at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, David Bowie said goodbye to his Ziggy Stardust incarnation on July 3, 1973. Although this decision came as a shock to fans (and the band!), it was a pivotal moment in securing Bowie's future.

The move away from Ziggy was an important early step on Bowie's path to becoming the restless, curious and versatile artist who had an unprecedented impact on music, film, fashion and beyond.
